Celebrating 20 Years of the Lehigh Valley Walk to Defeat ALS

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, the Lehigh Valley Walk to Defeat ALS celebrated 20 years of bringing together friends, families, and businesses to raise money and hope for the ALS cause.

Founders of the Lehigh Valley Walk joined with new teams to make the anniversary celebration special. Holly Bennett, one of the Walk founders, kicked off the opening ceremony with a few words about the importance of the Walk to Defeat ALS. Then, Jeff Cline, Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter, shared his gratitude for the overwhelming support from the Walk Community.

The Walk officially began with an honorary ribbon cutting by the team Fitting Family and Friends. After their team crossed the starting line, hundreds of Walkers made their way through the campus of Cedar Crest College. Many had signs and posters reminding everyone of their commitment to Defeat ALS.

The wonderful celebration concluded with an awards presentation highlighting the top fundraising teams and individuals. Top fundraisers received a unique medal and huge applause from everyone in attendance. Team Lenny’s Light was one of the award recipients, as their team raised over $10,000! Lenny Rafalko spoke about his journey with ALS and Team Lenny’s Light on WFMZ TV. View his story here.

As the Chapter honors this tremendous milestone, we want to celebrate the fantastic donors, sponsors, and volunteers who supported the Lehigh Valley Walk to Defeat ALS. With their dedication, the Lehigh Valley Walk community has raised over $2.5 million for ALS research and patient care since the Walk began in 2002.

The Walk to Defeat ALS is the Chapter’s #1 fundraising event. Fundraising through the Walk supports local care service programs, including access to multidisciplinary clinics, resource/support groups, equipment loan programs, and more. The Walk also funds groundbreaking research projects around the world.
