Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act in August of 2022. This legislation impacted many government programs, including Medicare, with new rules designed to expand benefits and lower drug costs. The proposed changes to Medicare Part D include a Maximum Monthly Cap for prescription drugs.
The new rules regarding the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan are not yet finalized. The timeline from CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) is explained below. On October 15, 2024, Medicare Part D enrollees will be able to begin opting into the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan for the 2025 plan year. Then, the new plans will launch on January 1, 2025.
