Stephen Dodds Potter of West Chester, PA passed away on June 25, 2024 after a courageous 16-year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Steve graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1979 where he developed a life-long love of ice hockey, first as an intramural player, then a club player, and finally as a dedicated Philadelphia Flyers fan. Steve enjoyed not only hockey, but also skydiving and flying a small plane that he owned with a group of friends.
Steve married Charlotte Briggs in 2006. Before her death in December, 2023 she cared for Steve with undying love and support. Together they faced Steve’s diagnosis with unwavering strength, grace, and determination, serving as an inspiration to all that knew them. Steve was very active with the ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter (now ALS United Mid-Atlantic) and traveled to Washington, DC many times to advocate for ALS and meet with his Senator. He and Charlotte raised money for ALS by sponsoring a team for the annual Walk for ALS. Every year many friends and family members attended the Walk.
Steve had a remarkable ability to find joy and humor in everyday life. He used creativity when confronted with increasing disability due to his illness and remained a pillar of positivity for those around him. Steve’s courage and resilience in the face of adversity were truly remarkable, and he leaves behind a legacy of hope and perseverance for his family and friends.
