Home Care
Care at home is a choice many of those living with ALS prefer whenever possible. Home care is typically not covered long term by insurance. As a result, families often struggle to find good care, and to sustain the cost of that care. We will work with you to explore your available options. If you are experiencing financial distress, we may be able to assist you with some of the cost of that care through our in home care grant program.
Howard I. Abrams In-Home Care Grant Program
ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease and results in the ongoing loss of mobility, communication, breathing, swallowing and independence with personal care. Caregivers can become overwhelmed by these increased needs and the complexity of the care required to keep their loved one safe and comfortable at home.
Unfortunately, Medicare and most private insurances do not cover care for extended periods of time and many families do not qualify for State funded programs.
The Howard I. Abrams In-Home Care Grant Program provides grants to assist a person with ALS who is registered with us, resides in the our service area, and does not have the financial resources needed to obtain adequate personal care.
If you are exploring your in home care options, please contact your social worker. They are happy to work with you in finding the best available solutions to meet your needs, or those of your loved one.
