ALS United Mid-Atlantic Supports Research at Pennsylvania Hospital
Biosamples are important to ALS research. Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, has maintained a longitudinal clinical database since 2006. This database previously included a formal biosample program. With support from ALS United Mid-Atlantic, Pennsylvania Hospital intends to reinstate this collection, which will enable them to advance their nationally recognized ALS research program and to better collaborate with scientists throughout the region.
“ALS United Mid-Atlantic is excited to partner with Pennsylvania Hospital to advance their highly regarded database with much needed biosamples,” said Jeff Cline, Executive Director of ALS United Mid-Atlantic. “This collection of biosamples is critically important to the science of ALS and better understand how the disease impacts patients.”
Study: Collect biosamples for use in longitudinal studies
Pennsylvania Hospital has a longitudinal clinical database that it has maintained since 2006. This is a deeply phenotyped group of patients and this database has yielded a rich dataset. Pennsylvania Hospital previously had a formal biosample collection program which collected biosamples from every patient in the database. Due to recent financial limitations, it has not been able to maintain this biosample collection. This initiative would be to reinstate the biosample collection.
