ALS United Mid-Atlantic is thrilled to welcome Robert Doren as the newest member of its Board of Directors. Robert brings personal and professional experience to the ALS United Mid-Atlantic mission and he is ready to move the organization forward to advance excellence in ALS care and research.
Robert Doren first became involved with the ALS cause in the Buffalo, NY, region when his wife Teri was diagnosed with ALS in 2006. During his wife’s 11-year battle with ALS, Robert was her advocate and caregiver. His steadfast commitment to the ALS United mission is a testament to his love for Teri and his understanding of the impact that ALS has on a family.
In 2014 he joined the Buffalo walk committee and formed a walk team, Team P.a.T., to fundraise for the ALS programs. It quickly became one of the largest Buffalo fundraising teams, raising in excess of $150,000 and Robert was the highest individual fundraiser from 2016-2022. When running back LeSean McCoy played for the Buffalo Bills, Robert had the opportunity to work with LeSean to raise money and awareness for the ALS cause, continuing LeSean’s commitment to ALS since his days with the Philadelphia Eagles. As his involvement with the Upstate NY Chapter continued to grow, Robert joined the board of the ALS Association Upstate New York Chapter. During his time on the Board, he held the offices of Secretary, Vice President, and President.
From 2018-2022, Robert was active with the ALS Association nationally, including as a member of the Governance Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and Secretary of the Board of Representatives.
Robert brings an extensive professional and legal background to ALS United Mid-Atlantic. As an attorney, Robert represented employers and management in all aspects of labor and employment law. His areas of expertise included jury trials in both state and federal courts, proceedings before the EEOC and the Human Rights Division, the NLRB, OSHA, collective bargaining, workplace investigations, wage and hour issues, arbitrations, and supervisory training. Robert began his legal career at the law firm of Flaherty, Cohen, Grande, Randazzo & Doren, where he worked from 1976-1996, and then served as a member of the firm of Bond Schoeneck & King from 1997 until his retirement in 2016.
ALS United Mid-Atlantic is excited and honored to have Robert Doren join the board to continue to build upon recent successes in ALS advocacy, pursue new treatments through research, and expand quality ALS care programs to those living with ALS in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
