Spark of Hope: A Well-Earned Honor

On January 29, 2024, Sean McHale received the John J. Baldi Award for Excellence from the Advisory Board of the Lackawanna-Susquehanna Behavioral Health/Intellectual Disabilities/Early Intervention Program. Sean recently retired as CEO of the Deutsch Institute and is currently living with ALS.

The award was presented by Advisory Board member Raymond Hayes, Administrator Miki Drutchal, and Cherianne Scala of The Advocacy Alliance. Sean was joined by his wife Susan, who has been a dedicated caregiver and advocate for him during his battle with ALS.

The John J. Baldi Award is given to individuals who make a profound impact on the quality of life for persons with mental illness or intellectual or developmental disability in Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties in Pennsylvania.

Sean’s work in this field gives him additional expertise for the complex and often frustrating medical system during his battle with ALS. He and his wife Susan are strong advocates for access to quality care programs.

ALS United Mid-Atlantic congratulates Sean for this recognition and we celebrate his achievements on behalf of the countless families whom he has championed in his incredible career.
