Erin King, RN will soon be celebrating one year with ALS United Mid-Atlantic, and it’s hard to believe how quickly that time has flown. She joined the organization on April 1, 2024, and from day one, she has brought heart, compassion, and a deep sense of purpose to everything she does.
Erin’s journey to ALS United Mid-Atlantic is rooted in friendship and love. She was encouraged to apply by her close friend, and now coworker, Kerstie Keebaugh. The two attended nursing school together, and Erin stood by Kerstie during one of the most difficult seasons of her life, as Kerstie’s uncle battled ALS. That experience stayed with Erin and helped shape what came next.
Before joining ALS United Mid-Atlantic, Erin spent six years working night shift as a heart and vascular bedside nurse. While she valued that work, she began to feel a pull toward something more lasting. “I felt like I lost my purpose,” Erin shares. “I wanted a career where I could truly make a difference and connect with patients and families for more than just two or three days.” Kerstie knew Erin would be a perfect fit and encouraged her to apply, a decision Erin is grateful for every single day.
As a Staff Nurse, Erin plays a crucial role in supporting people with ALS and their families. She coordinates care with providers, specialists, therapists, home health teams, and community resources. From arranging follow-up appointments and equipment to setting up home services, Erin helps make sure no detail is overlooked. She also educates patients and families about the ALS diagnosis, treatment options, and care planning, while serving as a strong advocate and trusted liaison within the healthcare team.
At the heart of Erin’s work is her commitment to walking alongside families through every stage of the disease. She ensures they receive the care, equipment, and support they need, always leading with compassion, understanding, and advocacy.
We are so thankful to have Erin as part of the ALS United Mid-Atlantic family and look forward to many more years of the warmth, dedication, and kindness she brings to our community.
