Staff Spotlight: Maureen Reid, RN, BSN

Maureen Reid is a registered nurse at the Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center ALS Treatment Center, where she is a beloved member of the multidisciplinary team. Prior to joining the Clinic, she worked as an orthopedic nurse at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, when she was unexpectedly introduced to the world of ALS, when her husband, Rich, was diagnosed with ALS in 1998 at age 42. The Hershey ALS Clinic team provided outstanding care for him, as well as their family, during the course of his disease.

Following this experience, Maureen officially joined the clinic team from the professional side in 2011 where she provides comprehensive, compassionate care to patients, families, and caregivers. The same love and strength that Maureen gave to Rich during his ALS journey are what Maureen shares with her patients and families now. Since his passing in 2003, Maureen and her family have continually participated in and led fundraising efforts toward the fight against ALS, including the annual Hershey ALS United Walk.

The Flame of Hope Awards recognize individuals who exemplify ALS United Mid-Atlantic’s core mission areas: Care Services, Advocacy, and Research & Innovation. Maureen accepted this esteemed honor alongside her family at our Annual Celebration.
