ALS United Mid-Atlantic Congratulates Dr. Zachary Simmons for Receiving the Forbes Norris Award
ALS United Mid-Atlantic congratulates Dr. Zachary Simmons for receiving the Forbes Norris Award from the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations. Dr. Simmons has been a leader in ALS research and care over the past three decades, and currently serves as Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Neurology at Penn State Health Department of Neurology.
Since Dr. Simmons first established the ALS Treatment Center at Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center in the mid-1990s, he has provided care to thousands of people impacted by ALS while also leading ALS research projects that have received national and international recognition. He has been at the forefront of research on a broad range of topics to advance understanding of ALS, including mindfulness, nutrition, strength training, biomarkers, and more.
“Dr. Simmons earned the prestigious Forbes Norris Award because of his tireless commitment to ALS patients and his meaningful contributions to science,” said Jeff Cline, Executive Director ALS United Mid-Atlantic. “Now the world knows what we have known for many years, that Dr. Simmons is a true leader in ALS research. We are proud to know him and congratulate him for this well-deserved honor.”
Dr. Simmons shares the 2024 Forbes Norris Award with Dr. Johnathan Glass of the Emory ALS Center.
